Independent Cllr John Dwyer is the new Cathaoirleach for New Ross Municipal District. He was elected at today’s annual general meeting and replaces Cllr Bridín Murphy.
“It was an honour and a privilege to be elected as Cathaoirleach of New Ross Municipal District Council this afternoon, said Cllr Dwyer on a social media post, and he added: “I would like to thank my fellow councillors for the faith they have shown in me and indeed I would like to thank my family and my supporters for their ongoing support, for without them, I could not do what I do. I look forward to this coming year.”
A former member of Wexford County Council, Cllr Dwyer lost his seat in the 2014 Local Elections, narrowed missed out in 2019, and regained his seat in the 2024 Local Elections when he promised that he would be “a truly Independent voice for New Ross.”
Cllr Dwyer was also an unsuccessful candidate in two General Elections representing two different parties – Eirigí and Sinn Féin.
The Leas-Cathaoirleach is Cllr John Fleming (Fianna Fáil).
