The Castletown River and Nature Festival takes place this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, August 23rd-24th and an opportunity to celebrate National Heritage Week with The Ahare River and Biodiversity Group as they explore the natural beauty of the Ahare River and local wildlife.

The group will be hosting two amazing free events to celebrate National Heritage Week 2025. The first will be a drawing class on Saturday, ‘Drawn to the Wild’ with Don Conroy in Castletown National School, Gorey.

Don Conroy is an artist, environmentalist, a television personality famed for his appearances on ‘The Den’ on RTE and a writer of children’s literature. A native of Dublin, he has been living near Enniscorthy for some years now!

This event is currently fully booked but a cancellation list has been created. It promises to be an excellent day.

On Sunday there is a fantastic family funday on beautiful Clone Strand, Castletown, north of Gorey celebrating Water Heritage Day with lots of fun for all the family, young and old.

Cathy Lee of the Ahare River and Biodiversity Group advised readers of Wexford Local.com to “bring along a picnic and enjoy the surroundings. There will be a sand art competition, egg and spoon race, nature treasure hunt and much much more. These events are free but booking is essential.

In association with and with support from Wexford County Council, LAWPRO and The Heritage Council, this promises to be a great weekend.
