Uisce Éireann, in partnership with Wexford County Council is replacing 2.7kilometres of old damaged water mains with new modern pipes in Rosslare to provide a more reliable water supply and reduce high levels of leakage.
The section of works, starting this week will take place from the junction of the N25 with the R740 to the outskirts of Rosslare at Mauritiustown.
The works will also involve laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers’ property boundaries and connecting it to the customers’ water supply.
The works will be carried out by Wexford County Council in conjunction with Uisce Éireann and are expected to be completed by the end of May.
JOE CARROLL Uisce Éireann (Pic; Uisce Éireann).
Joe Carroll, Uisce Éireann said; “Old and damaged water mains remain a huge source of leakage and continue to impact communities right across County Wexford, causing low pressure and supply disruption. Replacing these old water mains in poor condition in Rosslare will eliminate existing leaks and significantly reduce the amount of clean drinking water lost into the ground.”
To facilitate the safe delivery of the project and to minimise impact on the community, areas of work will be limited to short sections. Traffic management will be in place and local and emergency traffic will always be maintained.
The works may involve some short-term water shut offs and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned water shut offs.
Uisce Éireann understands that this type of work can be inconvenient and work crews will make every effort to minimise any disruption.
Customers can phone Uisce Éireann on 1800 278 278 if they have any questions about the project. To find out more visit www.water.ie

Met Éireann weather stations have recorded significant rainfall with Johnstown Castle showing 153.7mm of rainfall in March which almost double the March long term average rainfall of 79mm.
DEPUTY PAIL KEHOE
Deputy Paul Kehoe told WexfordLocal.com; “Weather conditions are hammering farmer morale, and we are moving into an unprecedented territory on farms. Farmers are acting responsibly but the reality is that the weather is preventing livestock turnout, spring planting, and other fielding right across the country, including in County Wexford.
“This is causing untold stress for farmers who are trying to manage a difficult situation. I welcome the pausing of all non-essential farm inspection until April 22nd to provide farmers with breathing space. We are in a position where every and all option to support them needs to be considered if these difficult conditions persist,” said Deputy Kehoe.
Fine Gael Deputy Kehoe is calling on Government and all actors in the sector to come together to provide a co-ordinated response to the situation facing farmers.
Fine Gael Minister of State in the Department of Agriculture Martin Heydon said that any measure which could offer a reprieve for farmers until the conditions improve was being looked at.
Minister Heydon said; “Last Friday my department convened a meeting of the food and fodder security committee to work through the issues facing farms. This committee and its members will continue to provide up-to-date information and advice as the situation develops and will meet again next week.

“In the meantime, we are putting in place a system to coordinate existing feed supplies to ensure any surpluses are available to those struggling. We are engaging with financial institutions to emphasise the need for short term finance on farms where cashflow is a difficulty, and in addition to pausing non-essential inspections we are exploring any flexibilities that can be offered around schemes and administration,” stated Minister Heydon, who concluded; “A difficult autumn in 2023 and persistent rain this spring have delayed livestock turnout, disrupted spring plantings, and caused difficulties with other fieldwork.”
