Cllr Murphy fosters Ireland-United States relations

Nancy Pelosi, former Speaker of the US House of Representatives and Cllr Barbara-Anne Murphy exchange greetings in the American Embassy in Dublin yesterday.

Bunclody-based Cllr Barbara-Anne Murphy was one of the 200 guests at the Annual United States – Ireland Fulbright Public Service Award held yesterday (Sunday) in the American Ambassador’s residence in Dublin when the former Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi was presented with the award, marking her extraordinary contribution to public service and political life.

Ms. Pelosi in a ‘fireside chat’ spoke with United States Ambassador Claire Cronin about her contribution to politics over four decades, especially in advancing democracy in the USA and around the world.

In Ms. Pelosi’s own words described her path in politics as ‘housewife, House Representative, House Leader’.

Cllr Barbara-Anne Murphy told WexfordLocal.com; “Nancy Pelosi a true inspiration for all who consider a life in politics, and her encouragement for women to enter politics is remarkable. It was an honour to be among the 200 or so guests in Deerfield who got to meet and speak with this extraordinary lady.”
