A teenage girl has died from injuries she sustained in a single car collision at Sheastown, Wellingtonbridge, Co. Wexford at approximately 6.20am on Wednesday, July 8th.
Sophie Caulfield, 14, of Cluain Húighéad, New Ross, died from her injuries on Friday, July 17th, surrounded by her heartbroken family. She was a student at St. Mary’s Secondary School, New Ross.
Sophie was taken to Wexford General Hospital and later transferred to Temple Street Children’s Hospital, Dublin. Three passengers in the car, one teenage boy and two teenage girls, were taken to hospital for treatment.
The driver of the car, a man in his late teens, was arrested and charged in connection with the incident. He appeared before Carlow District Court on Saturday, July 11th.
Gardaí are continuing to appeal for witnesses to come forward.
They are particularly asking anyone who was travelling in the Sheastown, Wellingtonbridge area around the time of the collision and who may have camera footage, including dashcam footage, to make it available to investigating Gardaí.

Funeral arrangements will be announced on Monday, July 20th, and the family has requested “everyone to wear bright and colourful clothing to honour Sophie’s life”.
